I notified the board earlier this month that I have decided to step down from my role as president and CEO of BOMA Edmonton and North effective November 15, 2025. The date that marks my five-year work anniversary with BOMA. I will transition to a consulting role, providing senior advisory services while I also focus on family. It was a difficult decision, but BOMA is in a strong position and I am excited about being a part of the next phase of our growth in another capacity.

It was been a privilege to serve BOMA members and volunteers as president and CEO. This four-year in review video highlights much of the work we have accomplished in just a few minutes:

We’ve done a ton together.

  • Stopped the implementation of a new property tax.
  • Advocated for centralized appeals and a municipal financial task force comprised of public and private sector experts.
  • Put access to utilities data at the top of the policy agenda.
  • Led the nationalization of our Downtown Safety and Vibrancy Survey, creating a powerful new federal advocacy coalition.
  • Made our organization and city a globally-recognized sustainability trailblazer with an international award that recognized our achievements, best practices, and tangible results in good governance, building performance, and inclusion of the North and rural communities, Indigenous Peoples, the next generation of diverse CRE professionals, and women in the industry.
  • Co-launched Canada’s first Indigenous inclusion project in commercial real estate with Oteenow Employment and Training and Tribal Chiefs Employment and Training Services Association.
  • Successfully hosted BOMEX 2023, BOMA’s national conference, for the first time in 30 years—showcasing Edmonton and the North to 650 attendees and contributing $1.5 million to the local economy.
  • Celebrated BOMA Edmonton and North’s 60th Anniversary with the strongest awards program in 40 years.
  • Rebranded from BOMA Edmonton to BOMA Edmonton and North to better represent the region we serve.

We have accomplished more than I ever imagined we could at the end of November 2020 when I joined BOMA at the height of COVID. We not only modernized BOMA from top to bottom, including a revamp of our annual publication, which is now called Square Footage by BOMA, but we also built partnerships within and outside of the industry that brought the voices of commercial real estate to more tables than ever before.

I was going through our achievements for 2025 with the team as we prepare for our AGM on November 4, 2025, and I was impressed with what we have done once again with limited resources. We reached our ambitious targets by taking risks, operating efficiently, and listening to you—our members. BOMA volunteers have made all the difference and the sponsors are instrumental to our success. I can’t thank you enough for the hours and resources that you contribute to BOMA.

I am indebted to my outstanding board members, past and present, and to the incredible BOMA team, the staff and contractors who were core members of the team these past five years: Jeannette, Stacey, Joyce, Kryzia, Veronica, Gil, and Bev. I’d like to thank Cam Naqvi and Hilary Lumme for their guidance, mentorship, and invaluable support as they served in the top chair roles for most of my tenure.

BOMA is strong, future-oriented, and in excellent hands with your board and industry veteran Stacey Claffey as your interim president and CEO. You can contact her sclaffey@bomaedm.ca and find her on LinkedIn here.

I wish all of you great success as we near the end 2025 and begin 2026. Please don’t hesitate to keep in touch and reach out anytime. I’m grateful to all of you for being a part of this chapter with me. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Lisa Baroldi
